Mass violence and mental illness

Yesterday I shared an article on social media and commented on the absurdity of calls by our political leadership to “…make sure people with mental illness do not get guns.” I think the conversation got a little off track from what I was trying to say. My point was more that despite what politicians may be saying, they do not care about mental health or public safety.

tl;dr— talk of mental illness is a bullshit, feel-good way of diverting from the topic of gun control. It’s an emotional appeal with the appearance of taking a stance in a day and age when the public is fed up with thoughts and prayers. Continue reading
